Fashion Illustration is my Focus

Hello. Welcome to my blog.

The home page of my website touches on the main topics I plan to discuss here:

  • Fashion Illustration
  • Brand Strategy
  • Digital Marketing
  • Fashion Design

These are the specializations of my fashion and marketing careers. There are some interesting topic overlaps, but Fashion Illustration will be the primary focus of this blog. I wanted to launch with some of my Fashion Design and Illustration favorites. Several may become more apparent as the blog develops.

Fashion Designer and Artist

I am a fashion designer that loves to draw. This is one of my favorite parts of the fashion design process and it is the easiest to share.

When I was working as an Assistant Designer I had to sketch, but mostly technical flat sketches. Fashion Illustrations were for the occasional showroom catalog or my personal portfolio. I rarely had the opportunity to illustrate in the design studio.

My design concentration was Women’s Sportswear. Mostly suits and career separates, but I did dabble in activewear and lingerie for some freelance gigs. Ironically when I started Fashion School full-time, I wanted to do eveningwear. I don’t remember why that changed.

Illustrating My Favorites

Back then, Valentino was my favorite fashion designer. I love the direction it has moved in under Pierpaolo Piccioli. The brand is still one of my favorites. I dream of wearing a Valentino Gown one day.

Purple is my favorite color. So many variations. I love them all. So, when I fell in love with this purple gown from the Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2019-20 Collection, I had to sketch it.

But for me, satin is a challenge. I tend to struggle with rendering shiny fabrics like leather, silks and satin. My execution just isn’t quite right. But that is the point. Practice and challenge myself to get better. I am extremely happy with how well this satin rendering came out. I had a great photo reference. Got to love the giant bow as well.

I decided to keep sketching from Valentino’s next collection. Naturally, there was plenty of red. Red is my favorite color to wear, it is one of my most flattering colors.

From Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2020 Collection I drew a few of my favorite designs. Lots more bows and purple too.
