Alexander McQueen Fashion Illustrations
My Next Fashion Illustrations
Alexander McQueen was the inspiration for the second trio of fashion illustrations I posted on my Instagram account.
I am a longtime fan of the McQueen brand so I had planned to sketch some designs in March. The 17th was the original designer’s birthday.
Why McQueen
Immediately after seeing the Fall 2020 runway show, I chose to illustrate a few of my favorite looks. There was so much to choose from.
The “Women Warrior” was unmistakable throughout this Ready-to-Wear collection. I loved the contrast between hard and soft in the fabrications. As well as the bold statement jewelry and the Welsh folklore influences. Even more, those thigh-high leather boots!
According to marieclaire.com. Creative Director Sarah Burton’s inspiration for this collection was:
“The woman is courageous, grounded, bold: heroic. There is a sense of protection in the clothes, of safety and comfort, evoked through quilting and blankets. The hearts are a symbol of togetherness, of being there for others.”
Alexander McQueen During Quarantine
By the begining of April, the majority of the world was on Covid-19 lockdown. To inspire creativity, McQueen invited fans to collaborate with the brand through an Instagram Challenge.
Every week, the brand will launch a new creative project. The first project invited fans to sketch, paint or color the finale “Rose Dress” from its Fall 2019 Runway Show.
Then, share your creation on Instagram using the hashtag @AlexanderMcqueen or #McQueenCreators for a chance to be featured on the brand’s media accounts. What a fun project.
Personally, I love the Rose Dress. But I did not get a chance to illustrate a version for the challenge.
